Pigeon Manual Breast Pump

Disclosure: This is not a paid post. All opinions are based on my experience only.

In my previous post I talked about my 3rd baby's jaundice. Along with that horrible story there left another experience: breast pumping.

Since I have my first baby I never thought I would do breast pumping as I am a SAHM and I thought that any SAHM would never need any tool like this.

The truth is I was wrong. Any mom in this world may need this kind of thing: breast pump.

As my baby had to stay at the hospital underwent several phototherapy, the nurse told me to pump my breasts and brought the milk every morning.
"The baby needs at least 100 cc once every hour," she said.
I was shocked. It seemed so impossible for me. It meant that I needed to produce 2,4 litre of milk a day. Kind of too much for me. Could I do that? I was confused. I couldn't hand-pump my breasts. I tried but there was only a little amount of milk. I started to panic.

I knew I could produce some breast milk while my baby sucked the breasts not by any other mean. But, I had to pump because my baby couldn't leave the phototherapy box for any reason except for having a shower in the morning and in the afternoon.

So, I bought a breast pump. It is Pigeon Manual Breast Pump.

The pump comes in several parts: the pump itself which is so comfort to hold; a set of flange to fit the breast comes in regular and large size; and a 160 mL wide plastic nursing bottle with its standing and its cover.

At first I didn't know how to use the pump so I follow the manual instruction provided at the back side of the box. The manual comes in English, Arabic and Indonesian. It's easy to understand even for a starter like me.

I put the regular flange and the bottle to the pump, fit the flunge onto my breast and start pumping. Firstly, choose the stimulation mode by clicking the red button on top of the pump to the toppest position then pump. It gives you smooth sucks to stimulate your breast. Once you feel you are ready to pump, move the red button to the lower position and start pumping. I myself found it a little difficulty in doing this. But, after twice trial, I could pump well. Afterall I found it easy to use. And it's really less effort, less fuss and less pain.

What about the result? Did I get enough breast milk? It depends on the condition. When I was stressful during my baby's jaundice I produced a little milk. But, when I got home and felt comfortable I got greater amount of milk. I write about how to get better breast milk here: Things Moms Should Do To Have Better Breast Milk.

How about the price? It is 330 K IDR at the local baby shop. It is much cheaper than the electric pump, about 1/3 of the price.

I think a breast-pump is a very important every breast feeding mom should have whether she is a SAHM or a WM. What about you, moms? Do you have any memorable experience in breast pumping?

  1. Dulu pumping pakai pompa yg ujungnya karet itu, rasanya sakit. Makanya jadi gak pumping. Sedot aja langsung dari sumbernya.
