Welcoming Eid 2022

Post a Comment

Welcoming Eid 2022. This is the third Ramadan with Covid-19. But it is a little bit different. We, insha Allah, will be able to make a journey to my home town to see my mom. In Indonesia we call the journey 'mudik' or 'pulang kampung'.

Mudik literally means going to 'udik' or where you belong. We usually use the term 'mudik' for people who travel from a big city to a smaller town. While 'pulang kampung' is defined for traveling home from a small town to a big city. Kind of the same meaning but different sense. I could hardly found people who originally from big cities use the word 'mudik'. Except for those who don't understand the root of the words.

Travel-Eid-2022

I live in my husband's home town for almost 11 years out of 14 years of marriage. We spend our lives here, so it is fair enough for us to come to my home town on every Eid el-fitr. My parents-in-law have passed away, while my mom is still alive. So we think seeing our living parent is very important on Eid.

We usually have a family gathering in each town. And that becomes a big one. My mom has 9 siblings so it means I have 18 aunts and uncles (2 uncles have passed away), and 18 cousins (1 has passed away). Plus my cousins' partners and kids too!

While my husband, he has 10 siblings (3 brothers have passed away), which means I have 10 brothers and sisters-in-law. Don't try to count my husbands' nieces and nephews, and their kids!

Hey, Ramadan has just started but I am talking about Eid already? Please forgive me. We haven't gone home for Eid in 2 consecutive years. My mom even adviced me not to come home last Eid.

We really miss the process. The hectic days of packing things, the travel itself, the aroma of home town, my mom's chicken (they always make a mess), and the chance to see my relatives and old friends. One of my college buddies even arranged a meet-up with me. I hope that we really can meet.

But, there are some important issues to face this year. We have a raised fuel price recently, and the mandatory booster vaccination for each of us. I haven't got the booster shot and neither has my husband. But as we are not going to use public transportation, I think it is going to be fine.

Yeah. Ramadan day 4, and we have already prepared for Eid. What about you?
